Heart to Home works hard to create an enriching activity program. Our blog captures the essence of day-to-day activities and happenings at our residential care homes. You will notice a larger emphasis on outdoor activities during the summer months and more in-house events (music therapy, pet therapy etc.) during the winter months. Given our smaller size you will also notice that our staff have frequent times where they can enjoy one-on-one activities with our residents.
Pumpkin Painting
In celebration of the season we worked on painting pumpkins at Mendakota Manor. It was fun to work with the paint and let our creative juice's flow. As you can see from the photos there were many smiles had by all!

Pumpkins & Flowers
This week we prepared for fall at Mendota and Mendakota Manor! We awoke our senses this week by smelling and guessing different seasonal spices, such as nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla. Then we took advantage of our flower gardens and enjoyed smelling, touching, and viewing the colors the beautiful flowers. We used our fine motor skills and creativity to create fall flower arrangements for both houses. We also decorated the house with pumpkins we painted ourselves! Finally, fall preparation isn't completed without watching trees turn colors! It was a perfect brisk fall day for a walk in the neighborhood to check out the vivid fall colors!

Hilltop Manor Open House
Hilltop Manor is transforming before our eyes. It now features trim throughout, tile, hardwood floors, granite counters, appliances, light fixtures, etc. We are still on track for a November 2nd opening. The staff are excited and eager to show off this beautiful new residential care home!

Birthday Party & Treats
Here we are working on baking some tasty treats at Mendakota Manor. Baking and helping in the kitchen gives our residents such purpose and joy!

Once we finished up working in the kitchen it was time to celebrate a big birthday! We sure enjoyed the Dairy Queen ice cream cake!

Heart to Home is an alternative to traditional nursing home and assisted living facilities. Unlike large institutional facilities which may house as many as 100 residents, our homes house only 6-7 residents which allows us to focus on caring for each person on an individual basis. We like to refer to our homes as "small sanctuaries" which were purposefully designed to care for our beloved elders who may be experiencing progressive life limiting conditions and/or dementia. Summer Happenings
We've had a wonderful run here at the end of August. A few sun soaked afternoons on the deck / porch and 1:1 outings to cap off a great Minnesota summer!
